CHILDHAVEN

Childhaven is nonprofit organization serving area youth in need. It operates a Children’s Emergency Shelter, Foster Parent Programs, Court Appointed Child Advocates (CASA Program), Children’s Assessment and Therapy and a Children’s Advocacy Center. The Childhaven campus is on West Apache Street in Farmington. The Main office is at 807 West Apache but there are multiple Childhaven offices on both sides of the street and around the corner on Airport Drive.

We will be doing yard cleanup around the various Childhaven buildings on September 9, 2023 starting at 9:00 am. Typical yard tools will be needed to do this work. In addition, some volunteers will be cleaning the interior and exteriors of the Childhaven vans used in transporting children. Cleaning supplies will be provided by Childhaven. Work gloves, hats and sunscreen should be brought and used. Water and trash bags will be provided.

Once there are sufficient volunteers in place to do the Childhaven Projects, additional volunteers will be asked to assist the Brookhaven Park Neighborhood Cleanup Project. Brookhaven Park is located next to Childhaven.

Parking for the Childhaven Project is on West Apache at any of the Childhaven Buildings or as directed by Childhaven employees.

Brookhaven Park is located at 805 West Apache and 901 Glade Lane in Farmington.  The park follows along the ditch that flows from Brookside Park.

It has a walking trail between Brookhaven East Park and Brookhaven West Park and there are some improved areas at the Parks. The trash cleanup project on September 9, 2023 starting at 9:00 am will be at the Park(s) themselves and on the streets immediately surrounding the Parks (Apache, Airport Drive and Glade Lane). Work gloves, hats and sunscreen should be brought and used. Trash bags and water will be provided.

It has quickly become a city favorite once the lake was opened to swimming and boating. The trash clean-up project on September 9, 2023 starting at 9:00 am will be in and around the lake. Work gloves, hats and sunscreen should be brought and used. Water and trash bags will be provided.

SENIOR LIVING NURSING HOMES

Catholic Charities has requested hygiene kits for individuals that come in to use its services. Local Senior Living Facilities (The Bridge, St. Michaels Namaste, Three Rivers Estates and The Beehive Houses) have agreed to have their residents make up these kits as a way to participate and volunteer for the 9/11 Day of Service. Supplies for the kits has been donated by area businesses ( Thank you Courtyard by Marriott and Marriott Townplace Suites). No additional volunteers are currently needed for this project.

FOUR CORNERS MEMORIAL 9/11 STAIR CLIMB AND 5K WALK

The Stair Climb is a fundraiser for fallen New York City firefighters and their families and helps support local fallen firefighters. This project is at Ricketts Park (1101 Fairgrounds Road in Farmington) and participants climb the stairs to match the number of stairs in the World Trade Conter towers. The volunteers will be helping pass out water and do other tasks to support the participants. The Stair Climb web site is nfff.akaraisin.com. Only 10 volunteers are being requested for this event. Volunteers are requested to be at Ricketts Park at 7:45 am.
